Hello!
We are so excited for your upcoming boudoir session! This guide will give you all of the information that you need to know to prepare for your session. We strongly recommend that you read this guide from top to bottom as we do go over some of our most important studio policies.
ARRIVAL:
Your experience will start promptly at x time. Please do arrive approx. 15 mins early for your session.
It is strictly prohibited to bring in any alcohol or weapons into the studio, or arrive to your session having consumed alcohol. It is nothing personal, however, it is a liability issue. We are going to do everything in our power to ease your nerves and make you comfortable. Unfortunately, if we sense that alcohol has been consumed at any point, the day of your session, we will have to ask you to leave and forfeit your session spot.
PRE SESSION:
So you have booked your session, now what? Whatever your reason for your session, this experience is more for you. It can be scary as hell! It’s like the gym, the hardest part is getting here. You are going to experience a roller coaster of emotions. You might even feel sick the morning of your session. Clear your mind, take some deep breaths.... all you need to do is get here. As your session date gets closer, your list of reasons to cancel is going to grow. I beg you to not listen to them.
Here are some things you should know:
You do not have to know how to pose yourself.
You do not have to know how to give the camera a sexy look.
You do not have to lose any weight.
You do not have to feel great about yourself.
You just need to be yourself.
Here are some do's and don'ts to mentally prepare yourself for your session:
DO:
Let go of expectations for your session. Every session is different and has a different feel. Let things develop organically, and just enjoy the process.
Trust us
Stand in front of the mirror naked before coming in for your session, and just start the process of being comfortable in your skin. It seems silly, but your body is amazing and tells one hell of a story, listen to it and be proud. Start every day... just one minute. See the bullet point right above this one, if you feel like skipping this step.
Get vulnerable with us. Vulnerability = growth. We are here for you.... to listen, to laugh, to cry
Eat prior to your session. Nothing you eat that morning, will show on camera. This is a workout, you are going to need a lot of energy,
Have clean, shaped nails. A manicure and pedicure is highly recommended, but not required. Nails cannot be retouched.
DON'T:
Over analyze. This is a breeding ground for negativity.
Even mention your dislikes about your body. If you do, we will stop what we are doing and talk about it. Don't expect us to be nice if this happens. We will do some tough love if we need to.
Be afraid to act silly. We might ask you to dance or make sounds, there is a reason for it.
Lock up on us. You are going to be experiencing a lot of emotions that day. If you aren't able to express yourself, we can't customize the experience for what you need.
Have chipped nails.
FLEXIBILITY:
You absolutely do not have to be a gymnast, or double jointed, or be able to fold in half to do a session! BUT there are some fine micro movements, that will help you get the most from the poses I put you in, and more of a variety from your images. Not to mention, your session is going to be like an intense yoga workout! Yoga is a great way to help you prepare yourself for your session, and it is something everyone can do! Put your running shoes away (unless you are a runner), and just work on slow, low impact of stretches to help get you ready for your session.
DO:
Stay within your body’s limits. Basically, don’t try and do the splits the first time you stretch. The goal is not to injure yourself.
Drink water! Your muscles need this!
Feed your body protein. This will help your muscles recover.
EAT
If you decide to venture out and join a yoga class, find one that works for you with people who make you feel comfortable.
DON’T:
Over-estimate your ability. Start slow and listen to your body!
Do anything that you are uncomfortable with.
WARDROBE:
Your session will start in our closet, trying on options for outfits for your session. Our boudoir closet at the studio is growing, and it is for you to use I will pull a closet, just for you, based on the sizes you have provided us in your session questionnaire. We have a variety of styles and sizes to flatter every size and body type. You are more than welcome to bring your own pieces to wear, We will ultimately decide what you will wear for your session {trust me, i know what im are doing}.
Here are some do's and don'ts:
DO:
Bring a nude and black thong to wear under items in our closet. I recommend getting underwear in a size bigger than what you do normally. This will allow you to pull them up over your hips, without digging in.
Bring items that fit you
Push yourself outside of your comfort zone (at least a little). Items such as a tight white shirt or tank can be super sexy.
Bring your favorite sweater or cardigan. These look awesome paired with some cute undies.
DON'T:
Feel that you absolutely have to bring something
Bring in super shiny materials like cheaper satins and silks
Bring in shapeless garments like baby dolls, t-shirts, men's shirts or jerseys
Once you have some options chosen, I will narrow it down to four outfits, match them with shoes, jewelry, and other accessories or layering pieces.
SHOES
We have a small shoe closet in sizes 6-11. If you have a shoe size outside of this range, please let us know so we can get you taken care of. We very rarely use shoes that are not in our closet, as each pair is chosen directly for being on camera. You do not have to walk well in high heels. You don't have to walk much in them, at all. They are a tool that we use to help with posing, and sometimes they make an outfit. If you want to bring your own...
Here are some do's and don'ts
DO:
Find the tallest pair of shoes. Kitten heels can make you look shorter.
DON'T
Bring your shoes you wore to prom. Seriously.... just don't.
Bring wedges. Heels only
HAIR & MAKEUP
I will get you into my chair right after for hair and makeup. This portion will take approximately an hour.
If you have ideas for hair and makeup, please bring them with you. I will take your ideas and use them for inspiration while enhancing your features for camera. Please understand that your makeup might seem darker, and your hair might be bigger. It is all for the camera. Trust me, all of my clients showcase my artwork.
DO:
Have clean, dry hair. This means having washed your hair the day of or the day before your session. Light product use is ok to use. If you have curly hair, and plan to keep your hair curly, for your session, you are welcome to use your products on your hair, prior to your session. If you want to go straighter for your session, please straighten to the best of your ability.
Have a clean, moisturized face
Drink a TON of water. Moisturized skin photographs amazingly. If you are dehydrated, more texture will show on your skin
Uses a gentle exfoliator on your face 2 days before your session. It helps get rid of any dry skin buildup on your face along with giving you a nice glow. Don’t exfoliate the night before or morning of your session. Your skin needs time to rejuvenate and sometimes can stay red for a while after.
If you wear contacts have them in before you arrive.
Wear a loose, light weight shirt or button up shirt to your makeup and hair appointment. You want it to be easy to remove. Also, wear loose fitting pants. Tight jeans will leave marks down your legs. Please remove socks prior to going into hair and makeup to avoid sock lines.
Get a good night’s rest before your session to avoid puffiness and bags under eyes.
Brush your teeth and lips well before you arrive for makeup. This will allow your lip color to go on smoothly and stay better.
If you have any skin allergies or sensitivities let me know ahead of time. We may have you bring in your own makeup depending on the sensitivity level.
Trust me with your look. Your makeup will be darker than you are used to. This is how makeup for camera works. The camera will wash out some of it.
Get hair and makeup ideas from magazines or our Pinterest board and bring them with you to your appointment.
DON’T:
Deep condition your hair. Your hair will not hold during your session.
Not moisturize
Wax within one week of your session. Your skin will need time to heal.
Drink alcohol within 48 hours of your session. Puffy skin is no bueno.
DO NOT TAN. DO NOT GET A SPRAY TAN. I cannot stress this enough. Tan skin photographs orange, and spray tans will damage our garments and bedding. DO NOT DO IT! Pale skin photographs beautifully! We cannot Photoshop tan lines, or orange skin. It also may result in you getting an invoice to replace damages pieces or furniture. Just don’t do it.
Look at your phone. Looking down at the screen makes Emily’s job a lot harder and can cause mistakes.
Wear perfume or scented lotions to your session. We have very sensitive noses in here, and we want to be on top of our game for you.
